    ARTx5: Group Show

    Art X 5 is a group of women artists who have been meeting monthly for more than two decades to critique each others work. Five different women, five different media: prints, mosaics, fiber, oil paint and pastel.  Featuring Rebecca Clark, Pastels; Cynthia Fisher, Mosaics; Helen Haddad, Potato Prints; Elizabeth Keyes, Fiber Art; and Elizabeth Pols, Oil Painting. The exhibit includes recent works inspired by the natural environment as well as a special focus on the Deerfield River's famous Glacial Potholes located in Shelburne Falls. On exhibit from May 3 - July 1.  Reception Saturday, May 5, 5-7pm with live music by JMPT Quartet.  May hours: Thurs - Mon. 10am to 5pm, Sun noon to 5pm and June hours: Open 7 days a week 10am-5pm, Sundays noon to 5pm.     Join the happy circle with Kay Lyons at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under with a grown-up every Friday morning. Each session is 45 minutes, with half an hour of structured activity and about fifteen minutes of visiting time.Rhymes, songs, and movement games make up this story time style popularized by author Betsy Diamant-Cohen. Kay reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very  young. Children and grown-ups shake rattles, tap rhythm sticks, wave colored scarves, ring bells, and do knee bounces to simple sing-along tunes that everybody learns together.     Kids Cooking Class

    An opportunity for parents and their children to explore the craft of cooking in a no pressure setting utilizing ingredients and utensils safe and accessible to kids. Classes will be structured so as to provide ample opportunities for children to be involved in most of the preparation, but may require parental supervision when it comes time to finish the dish. The intention is to familiarize children with the raw ingredients used to prepare a variety of foods and inform them of the nutritional values associated with them. Classes will last approximately one hour and will be taught in a private dining area in Chandler’s restaurant. A brief tour of Chandler’s kitchen can be accommodated upon request at the end of each class. 10:30 am - 12:00 pm. Cost: $25.00 per child, includes instruction, recipes to take home, lunch, and complimentary lunch for one accompanying parent.     24th Annual RiverFest

    “Going with the flow” of RiverFest, the annual celebration of a beautiful river and the countryside through which it flows.For adventurers of all ages, there will be chances to try out the latest craze in paddlesports, Stand-Up Paddling, courtesy of Zoar Outdoor, who will also offer quiet-water raft rides throughout the day. A RiverFest tradition continues as the colorful “Frog & Flower Parade,” once again coordinated and led by performance artist Maya Apfelbaum, brings together giant puppets, stilt walkers, river angels, drummers and children and adults who want to march along wearing vibrant masks they create in a free pre-parade workshop. Visitors can browse an exciting variety of vendors’ booths as well as used-book and tag sales…tune in to the many fine musicians appearing on the main stage and talented troubadours throughout the village…enjoy original poetry written and spoken aloud in homage to the river and the surrounding countryside and discover the wonders of local insect life at the Aquatic Bug Table—two of many entertaining, educational displays for nature lovers. Stroll along the famous Bridge of Flowers; take a ride on a historic Trolley; catch a double feature at Pothole Pictures; hike local trails; or simply treat yourself to something special in Shelburne Falls’ many distinctive shops and restaurants. Just go with the flow of RiverFest, and have a wonderful time!

    The Deerfield Craft Fair is known as “New England’s Most Beautiful Craft Fair.”  Nearly 120 juried exhibitors from 14 states will display and sell crafts of all media in the historic setting of the village of Old Deerfield.     Kids Cooking Class

    An opportunity for parents and their children to explore the craft of cooking in a no pressure setting utilizing ingredients and utensils safe and accessible to kids. Classes will be structured so as to provide ample opportunities for children to be involved in most of the preparation, but may require parental supervision when it comes time to finish the dish. The intention is to familiarize children with the raw ingredients used to prepare a variety of foods and inform them of the nutritional values associated with them. Classes will last approximately one hour and will be taught in a private dining area in Chandler’s restaurant. A brief tour of Chandler’s kitchen can be accommodated upon request at the end of each class. 10:30 am - 12:00 pm.     Franklin Land Trust Day at Mike's Maze

    Each year a new artistic creation is sculpted out of this 8-acre corn field, complete with scavenger hunts, a potato cannon, pick-your-own pumpkin, horse-drawn wagon rides, petting zoo and farm fresh cafe.     Fall Festival

    Presented by Franklin Land Trust. Featuring Hayman creator and artist Michael Melle is famous for his lifelike hay and stick sculptures. Materials provided, limited to 20 scarecrow teams. See Michael's work at scarecrowgarden.com. Scarecrow making (Noon to 4 pm.), pumpkin painting (drop-in between Noon and 2 pm.), and bonfire and hayrides (5 to 7 pm.). $50 material fee per scarecrow team. Hayrides, pumpkins and evening bonfire are free. Musicians are welcome around the bonfire. Noon to 7 pm. Held at Guyette Farm located on Gloyd Street in Plainfield.  Funded by a grant from the Ashfield, Cummington & Plainfield Cultural Councils.

    Kids Cooking Class

    An opportunity for parents and their children to explore the craft of cooking in a no pressure setting utilizing ingredients and utensils safe and accessible to kids. Classes will be structured so as to provide ample opportunities for children to be involved in most of the preparation, but may require parental supervision when it comes time to finish the dish. The intention is to familiarize children with the raw ingredients used to prepare a variety of foods and inform them of the nutritional values associated with them. Classes will last approximately one hour and will be taught in a private dining area in Chandler’s restaurant. A brief tour of Chandler’s kitchen can be accommodated upon request at the end of each class. 10:30 am - 12:00 pm. Cost: $25.00 per child, includes instruction, recipes to take home, lunch, and complimentary lunch for one accompanying parent.
